As a part of celebration of the Marian Smoluchowski Year in the Polish Physical Society, the Senate of the Republic of Poland commemorated the ingenious Polish physicist with an official session, an exhibition, and a special symposium. The exhibition "Pod przewodnią gwiazdą nauki. Marian Smoluchowski – w stulecie śmierci", prepared by the Jagiellonian University Museum, the Faculty of Physics, Astronomy, and Applied Computer Science of the Jagiellonian University, the Polish Physical Society in collaboration with the Committee for Science, Education, and Sport. It was opened on 28 June 2017 by Marshall Stanisław Karczewski. The exhibition will last until 13 July 2017.

On 30 June 2017 the Senate of the Republic o Poland commemorated Marian Smoluchowski with the conference "W 100. rocznicę śmierci Mariana Smoluchowskiego – genialnego polskiego fizyka", organized by the Committee for Science, Education, and Sport with the Polish Physical Society. The aim of the Senate meeting was presentation of the life and scientific and philosophical achievements of Marian Smoluchowski. The speakers were professors: Bogdan Cichocki (the Physical Faculty of the Warsaw University), Ewa Gudowska-Nowak (the Faculty of Physics, Astronomy, and Applied Computer Science of the Jagiellonian University), and Zenon Roskal (the Philosophy Faculty of the Catholic University of Lublin).

During the session on 28-29 June the Senate passed a resolution on the 100th anniversary of Marian Smoluchowski's death. The resolution reminds that 5 September 2017 marks 100 years since the premature death of Marian Smoluchowski, one of the most prominent scientists of the turn of the 19th and 20th cent. His great love for Poland was also emphasized, including his great respect for Polish language, Polish nature and Polish culture. The Senate expressed the conviction that remembering Marian Smoluchowski on the 100the anniversary of his death should be an opportunity to introduce him to the public sphere, especially to schools and universities, and "a closer familiarity with his life and achievements will be an important lesson about the Polish contribution to world science. The beautiful attitude of Polish patriotism, presented by a world-class Polish scientist should be an inspiration for the younger generation and the whole society". The resolution was passed by acclamation on Senator Kazimierz Wiatr's initiative.
