2020 the Year of Physics in Poland

On October 8, 2019, at the last meeting of the Senate in the 9th term of office, a resolution was adopted establishing the year 2020 as the Year of Physics:

"The Senate of the Republic of Poland designates 2020 as the Year of Physics, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Polish Physical Society. The Senate aims to recognise the fundamental contribution of Polish physicists since regaining independence in 1918.”

The justification reads:

"The establishment of the year 2020 as the Year of Physics by the Senate of the Republic of Poland honors Polish physicists and their achievements, as well as the appreciation of the civilizational significance of this field of science. We expect that the Year of Physics  brings our society even greater recognition of the role of science, in particular physics and its contribution to development of the economy and impact on our daily lives. Interest in physics, an extremely interesting experimental science, translates into an increase in skills in this area for subsequent generations. Scientific and professional activity in this area is particularly important for the development of the information society and knowledge-based economy. "
