The 150th anniversary of Maria Skłodowska-Curie’s birth

7 November 2017 r. is the 150th anniversary of Maria Skłodowska-Curie’s birth. She was thewinner of two Nobel Prizes: in physics for the study of radioactivity (1903, with her husband Pierre Curie and Henri Becquerel) and in chemistry for isolating pure radium and research into chemical properties of radioactive elements (1911, individually). Numerous commemorative events has been planned by our university, named after the great Polish scientist. This includes a pre-release screening of a film about Skłodowska-Curie in the Academic Cultural Centre “Chatka Żaka”. Another important events will be a scientific conference organized by the Faculty of Chemistry and the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Sciences. Other events include fine arts, science, and diploma contests for children, youth, and students. This year’s inaugural lecture will be devoted to the life and scientific achievements of Maria Skłodowska-Curie. Chemistry displays, staging of the play “Ja, Maria” and a musical show alluding to the life of Skłodowska-Curie are planned as well.

Detailed itinerary of the events at MCSU is available at the website www.urodzinymarii.umcs.pl
