PLASMA-2013
The International Conference on Research and Applications of Plasmas,
PLASMA-2013, is organized by the Institute of Plasma Physics and Laser Microfusion (IFPiLM) and the Polish Physical Society on 2-6 September 2013 in Warsaw. Over 140 participants from different countries already signed up for the PLASMA-13 conference. More than 20 distinguished polish and foreign specialists accepted the invitation from the International Scientific Committee and agreed to give plenary lectures. The Ministry of Science and Higher Educaition is supporting the organization of the conference with a special grant. A number of private Polish and foreign companies support the conference and at the same time present the research equipment manufactured by them. PLASMA conferences have been organized Since 1993, maliny in Poland. In 2007 the conference took place in Germany and in 2010- in France. The main aim of the PLASMA conference is creating a scientific forum for an in-depth discussion and evaluation of the progress in research concerning plasma physics and technology and nuclear fusion. Most works presented at the conference is carried out within the framework of international cooperation, mostly supported by European programmes. The conference gained the reputation of a major international research event with a unique importance to the Eastern and Western Europe research cooperation. It also enables the meeting of young researchers with experienced scholars from renowned national and international centres.
The research and applications of plasma in various fields of science and technology are being intensively developed all over the world. An important aim of the study of hot plasma is mastering controlled thermonuclear synthesis (fusion) for future, safe for people and the environment, power production. Low temperature plasma has various technological applications, for example, in electronics, space technology and modification of material properties.
A few centres in Poland, in close international cooperatation, are involved in plasma and thermonuclear research. These include: the Institute of Plasma Physics and Laser Microfusion, the National Centre for Nuclear Research, PAN Institute of Nuclear Physics, PAN Space Research Centre, PAN Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery, Opole University and a number of research groups in other universities and institutes. In Poland IFPiLM coordinates the research over the thermonuclear fusion in tokamak and stellarator systems as part of the Association EURATOM-IFPiLM programme and research over laser fusion as a part of the European HiPER programme.
