Silver Medal of the Polish Team During the XXVI International Young Physicists’ Tournament

The XXVI International Young Physicists’ Tournament took place in Taipei in Taiwan on 23-31 July 2013 and it was attended by teams from 26 countries. Poland was represented by the team from XIV Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. Stanisława Staszica in  Warsaw, the winners of the Young Physicists’ Tournament 2013 (more information at http://tmf.org.pl). The team consisted of students (graduates) of the first and second classes: Marcin Kalinowski (captain), Mateusz Dziwulski, Mateusz Eggink, Tomasz Schmidt and Jakub Knot (week before he won the gold medal at the International Physics Olympiad in Copenhagen). Łukasz Gładczuk, a student of the Faculty of Physics at Warsaw University, who in the past participated in the International Young Physicists Tournament as a student of this school, was the guardian of the team. The team was accompanied by Krzysztof Górka, a substitute in YPT 2013.

The final score after five rounds, in which all teams took part, the Polish team took fourth place and thus found itself at the forefront of the ranking of the silver medallists. Slovakia, New Zealand, Brazil and Austria also received silver medals. Gold medals were awarded to teams of Singapore, South Korea and Switzerland who qualified to the finals. Bronze medals were given to teams of Germany, China, Sweden, Bulgaria and Taiwan (Chinese Taipei).

The success of the Polish team is particularly noteworthy due to a marked increase in the level of the International Tournament in recent years..
